Oficyna Burkego, Wooden heritage house in Praga-Północ district, Warsaw, Poland.
Oficyna Burkego is a single-story wooden building located at Kawęczyńska Street 26 with a rectangular layout and a facade divided into 10 sections. The structure follows the standard residential design typical of this period in the Praga region.
The building was constructed around 1900 by Edmund Burkego and Józef Wągrowski and served as a residence for multiple families for over a century. Inhabitants occupied the house until 2016, when the last resident departed.
This wooden structure shows how residents lived in the Praga district during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The building reflects the housing patterns and daily life of ordinary families in this part of Warsaw.
The building has been a protected monument since April 2015 and currently sits in deteriorated condition with structural problems. Visitors should be aware that extensive restoration work is needed and the structure may have limited accessibility.
Only two wooden residential buildings from the late 1800s survive in Praga-Północ today, making this house a rare example of nearly vanished construction methods. Its preservation offers insight into housing styles that once dominated the neighborhood but have nearly disappeared.
