Project Arado

Project Arado is an underground museum in a mountain town featuring tunnels and chambers excavated into the hillside. The spaces contain military equipment and artifacts from the war period that document the manufacturing operations that once took place there.

German forces excavated this facility between 1943 and 1945 beneath the mountain to manufacture components in secret. The hidden factory was part of the broader wartime production effort protected from aerial attacks.

The place reveals how occupation shaped daily life and forced people into labor. Walking through the chambers, visitors can sense the human experience behind the industrial operation.

Wear warm clothing since the tunnels remain cool throughout the year during your visit. The passages are clearly marked and guided tours last roughly one hour through the underground network.

Some sections of the facility remain flooded as they were when it functioned as a hidden German factory. These unaltered areas offer a rare glimpse into how the underground space originally looked.
