Kamienna Góra, County seat in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Kamienna Góra is an urban municipality in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland, situated between the Stone Mountains and Rudawy Janowickie at an elevation of about 470 meters. It serves as an independent urban municipality and also functions as the administrative center for Kamienna Góra County.
The town received city rights in 1292 following the construction of a defensive castle by Polish Duke Henry the Bearded in the early 13th century. These early structures shaped its development through subsequent centuries.
The Old Town preserves Gothic churches and medieval fortifications that reflect different periods of urban development. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul stands as a key example of this layered architectural history.
The center is easily walkable, and the compact layout of the Old Town makes orientation straightforward. Local information points can help with planning visits to the wider region.
During the Thirty Years' War the settlement was devastated by invading forces in 1639 and reduced to just two inhabitants. Recovery from this catastrophic decline took decades of gradual rebuilding and return of the population.
