Rosa's Passage, instalacja artystyczna w Łodzi
Rosa's Passage is a covered passageway in the Katedralna area of Lodz, located behind a historic building on Piotrkowska Street. The walls are completely covered with thousands of small mirror fragments arranged in a mosaic pattern with various shapes including squares, diamonds, and irregular pieces.
The underlying building functioned as a notable hotel in the 19th century and later became a municipal tenement. Artist Joanna Rajkowska created the mirror installation starting in 2013, with each fragment carefully attached to walls and structures over several years.
The passage takes its name from artist Joanna Rajkowska's daughter Rosa, who experienced serious eye cancer as a child. The installation reflects this personal story and invites visitors to think about seeing and human perception in everyday life.
The passage is free to visit and open from early morning until late evening, making it a convenient shortcut between two streets. The interior is brightened by reflecting mirror fragments, but it is wise to walk slowly and watch for uneven surfaces.
The mirror fragments are arranged in patterns that mirror the structure of the human retina, making the installation a walkable metaphor for the eye itself. This design merges personal biography with scientific biology and invites visitors to think about seeing on multiple levels.
