Piatra Craiului National Park

The park encompasses a limestone ridge that stretches for 25 kilometers through the Southern Carpathians, reaching its highest point at Vârful La Om at 2,238 meters.

The protected area received initial designation in 1938, followed by national park status in 1990, covering 14,773 hectares of mountain terrain in central Romania.

The territory maintains traditional pastoral activities while protecting large carnivores such as bears, wolves, and lynx that hold significance in Romanian folklore.

Visitors access the park through the DN73A road from Brașov to Zărnești, with numerous marked trails leading to viewpoints and geological formations throughout the area.

The park contains Romania's deepest cave system, Avenul sub Colții Grindului, extending 769 meters below ground with ongoing exploration of its underwater sections.
