The remains of Cumidava fortress contain stone walls, towers, and military structures spread across a strategic hilltop location near modern-day Râșnov.
Built in the second century AD, Cumidava served as a Roman military outpost to control migration routes and protect the province of Dacia.
Archaeological excavations at Cumidava have revealed numerous artifacts including pottery, tools, and inscriptions that document daily Roman military life.
The archaeological site opens for visitors during daylight hours and includes marked paths leading to different sections of the ancient fortress.
Local discoveries indicate that before Roman occupation, the site housed a Dacian settlement mentioned by geographer Claudius Ptolemeu.
