Libida, Archaeological site in Slava Rusă, Romania.
Libida is an archaeological site in Slava Rusă containing the scattered remains of an ancient city with fortification walls and multiple defensive towers across elevated ground. Excavations have uncovered residential areas, a cemetery section, and religious buildings spanning different periods of the settlement's occupation.
The settlement began as a Getic community in early times and evolved into a Roman center that thrived for centuries. It was eventually abandoned following invasions that disrupted life in the region.
Visitors can see the remains of a basilica with three aisles and an adjoining monastic complex, which reveal how faith transformed this settlement over time. The architectural layout shows how religious life was organized in this community.
The site sits on elevated ground, so visitors should be prepared for some walking uphill through the excavation areas. Sturdy footwear is advisable, and bringing water or sun protection will make the visit more comfortable during exploration.
Coins and a treasure were discovered buried beneath the ruins in 1916, helping researchers finally confirm the name of this ancient city. This find revealed that the settlement was once a prosperous trading center with wealth and influence.
