Oase, Archaeological cave in Anina, Romania.

The cave system consists of 12 karstic galleries and chambers, containing numerous fossil remains and geological formations in the Carpathian Mountains.

Researchers discovered the oldest European early modern human remains in 2002, with fossils dating between 42,000 and 37,000 years old.

The site reveals evidence of interactions between early modern humans and Neanderthals through genetic analysis showing 5-11% Neanderthal DNA in found specimens.

Access to the cave requires special authorization from Romanian authorities, and visitors must coordinate with local research teams for guided tours.

The cave acted as a hibernation space for Late Pleistocene cave bears, resulting in an extensive collection of preserved animal bones.
