Steam locomotive museum in Reșița, Railway museum in Reșița, Romania.
The Steam locomotive museum in Reșița is an open-air collection of 16 locomotives in the former railway town of Reșița, Caraș-Severin County, Romania. The machines stand on several tracks in a park-like setting, with 14 examples originating from the local works and representing different designs from the 19th to 20th century.
The museum opened in 1972 to celebrate 100 years of locomotive production in Reșița and also marked 200 years of iron industry since 1771. The first steam locomotive built here appeared in 1872 and signaled the start of rail vehicle manufacturing in southeastern Europe.
The locomotives bear names reflecting their city of origin and document the technical evolution of Romanian railways from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Visitors can trace how local heavy industry developed over generations and supplied equipment to different railway types across the region.
The site in the Triaj Park district is accessible without entry fees and the locomotives can be viewed from the outside at any time. The collection is best explored in daylight as the machines stand unlit in the open air.
The RESICZA locomotive from 1872 was the first steam locomotive manufactured in southeastern Europe and now stands at the entrance to the collection. Its name carries the German-language spelling of the city from that era.
