Tara national park

Located in western Serbia, Tara National Park spans 24,991 hectares of limestone terrain with mixed forests covering over 80 percent of its surface.

The national park received official protection status in July 1981, encompassing most of the Tara mountain range between Bajina Bašta and Višegrad.

The thirteenth-century Rača Monastery and medieval necropolises in Perućac and Rastište represent significant cultural monuments within the park boundaries.

Visitors access 290 kilometers of hiking paths and 75 kilometers of cycling routes from central locations, including specialized tracks for people with disabilities.

The park shelters Serbian spruce, an endemic conifer species that survived the last ice age, along with the largest black bear population in Serbia.
