Perućac lake, Artificial reservoir at the Drina River border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
Perućac Lake is an artificial reservoir at the Drina River border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, extending for 58 kilometers with depths reaching 80 meters. The lake holds roughly 340 million cubic meters of water between Višegrad and Bajina Bašta.
The lake was created in 1966 through the construction of a dam for the Bajina Bašta hydroelectric power station, a joint effort between Japanese and Yugoslav companies. This project transformed the landscape and how the Drina valley was used.
The medieval necropolis of Mramorje near the lake holds white limestone tombstones from the 14th and 15th centuries. These graves show how people lived in this region during the Middle Ages.
The lake offers opportunities for swimming and fishing during summer months with multiple access points along its shores. Visitors can find various locations on both sides of the border where the water is easy to reach.
The annual Drina Regatta takes place on the lake waters, drawing athletes and spectators to watch the races. The Vrelo River feeds into the lake, adding another water feature to explore.
