National park Drina, National park near Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Drina National Park extends along the left bank of the Drina River, covering mountainous terrain crossed by deep river canyons. The landscape features steep hillsides, forest stands, and impressive river gorges shaped by the flowing water.
The park was established in March 2017 as the fourth national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the third in Republika Srpska. This designation marked formal recognition of the Drina valley's ecological importance.
The Osat region within the park is known for its craftsmanship tradition, where local builders developed special techniques for constructing log cabins that still shape the appearance of settlements today. This heritage remains visible in how structures are built throughout the area.
The park is reachable by car from Sarajevo in about three hours, with Belgrade offering an alternative access point after about four hours of driving. Visitors should be prepared for mountain terrain and variable weather conditions.
The park harbors the rare Serbian spruce, Picea omorika, now found only in limited areas around the middle course of the Drina River. This tree species is a living witness to the unique ecological conditions of the river gorge.
