Voljavča Monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Stragari, Serbia.
Voljavča Monastery is a monastic complex set in dense forest near Voljavča creek on the northeastern slope of Rudnik mountain. The church within is dedicated to Saints Michael and Gabriel and serves as the center of the complex.
The monastery was founded in 1401 by nobleman Mihailo Končinović during the reign of Despot Stefan Lazarević. It was built upon earlier ruins dating back to 1050.
The monastery demonstrates how medieval Serbian builders created spaces for worship and community life through its architectural design. Visitors can observe the religious elements and construction methods that reflect traditions from that period.
The monastery can be reached at Stragari bb, 34323 Stragari and is open to visits. It is best to arrange your visit in advance before traveling to the site.
In 1765, the residential buildings of the monastery hosted the first meeting of the Serbian Minister Council, a significant moment in Serbian administrative history. The site thus played a role that extended beyond its religious function.
