Oplenac, Royal mausoleum on Oplenac Hill, Topola, Serbia
Oplenac is a religious mausoleum of white stone built on Oplenac Hill near Topola. The structure with five domes houses an Orthodox church in its upper levels and underground burial chambers beneath for royal burials.
King Peter I of Serbia had the structure built in 1910 to create a final resting place for the Karađorđević dynasty. Over the following decades, it became the principal burial site for members of the Serbian royal family.
The interior displays extensive mosaics with religious scenes following Serbian Orthodox traditions. These artistic depictions shape the spiritual character of the space and reflect the connection between royal authority and the faith of the people.
Visitors can explore the site daily with guided tours available in different languages. Comfortable shoes are recommended since access to the interior involves climbing stairs.
