Марковачко језеро, meer in Servië
Markovačko jezero is an artificial reservoir situated in a broad valley beneath Mount Kosmaj, spanning roughly one kilometer in length and half a kilometer in width. The water is surrounded by oak and cedar forests, open pastures, and grain fields, with depths reaching up to 12 meters in certain areas.
The reservoir was created in 1969 following the construction of a dam on the Kosarnja River, built to store water for irrigation and other purposes. This project transformed the location into a place where fishing and recreation could develop.
The village of Markovac, which gives its name to the reservoir, carries significance in local tradition and medieval heritage. The settlement remains a quiet place that visitors often overlook while enjoying the water, yet it holds important religious and historical sites that connect the area to past centuries.
The area is easily accessible via paved roads with parking available, and facilities include restaurants and camping options along the shore. Swimming areas and showers are provided, making access well organized for different types of visitors.
The water holds various fish species including catfish, carp, and silver carp, with anglers reporting large specimens weighing over 35 kilograms. Strict fishing rules and regular patrols by fishery officers help protect the fish stock and prevent overharvesting.
