Kremlyovskaya Embankment, Riverside promenade near Red Square, Moscow, Russia
Kremlyovskaya Embankment is a pedestrian walkway running along the northern bank of the Moskva River with direct views of the Kremlin walls and St. Basil's Cathedral nearby. The path stretches over several hundred meters and connects various central Moscow areas through paved walkways and open spaces.
This riverside section took much of its present form during the Soviet period when historic buildings along the bank were demolished to create open spaces. Opening up the river views was part of a larger plan to expose the Kremlin vista and reshape central Moscow.
The embankment takes its name from the Kremlin fortress that overlooks it and shapes how people experience this riverside walk. Locals and visitors gather here especially during holidays and seasonal events, enjoying the connection between the water and the historic walls.
The walkway is well-maintained and easy to access from nearby metro stations through multiple entry points. The best time to visit is during daytime or early evening hours when lighting is favorable and the space is less crowded.
Seven different Kremlin towers are visible from this spot, each rising distinctly against the sky above. Photographers often choose this location because the angle captures all these towers in a single view with particular clarity.
