Sofiyskaya Embankment 14, Moscow

Sofiyskaya Embankment 14 is a grand building on the banks of the Moskva River with an elaborate facade in late 19th-century style. The structure combines Russian building elements with European influences and displays a symmetrical arrangement with intricate ornaments on its outer walls.

The house was designed in 1893 by architect Fyodor Schechtel for merchant Pavlo Kharytonenko during Moscow's period of rapid change. It was built during a time of major urban transformation, when wealthy merchants were constructing their new residences.

The mansion reflects the tastes of wealthy Moscow merchants of the 19th century, who displayed their social rank through elaborate architectural details. The ornaments and facade design show how prosperity and power were expressed through building craftsmanship in that era.

The building stands on a main riverside street and is clearly visible from the outside, though it is not open to the public. You can view the architecture from the street and get a good impression of the facade from the river embankment side.

The building now houses an important political function and has become a site of diplomatic significance for international relations. This use transformed the residence into one of the country's most notable properties in modern times.
