Moscow Kremlin Wall, Defensive wall in Tverskoy District, Moscow, Russia
The red brick fortification extends for 2235 meters around the Moscow Kremlin, featuring 1044 distinct swallow-tail shaped merlons along its perimeter.
Italian architects Anton Fryazin and Marco Ruffo directed the construction of the wall between 1485 and 1516, replacing earlier white stone fortifications.
The wall contains 20 towers, including the ceremonial Spasskaya Tower with its clock and the Troitskaya Tower, which stands as the tallest structure.
The defensive structure ranges from 5 to 19 meters in height and 3.5 to 5.5 meters in thickness, forming an irregular triangle around the Kremlin.
Between the Nikolskaya and Spasskaya towers, the wall contains a necropolis and columbarium where notable Russian figures are interred.
