Kremlin Armoury, History museum in Tverskoy District, Moscow, Russia
The Armoury is a history museum in Tverskoy District, Moscow, displaying over 4000 artifacts including crowns, scepters, ceremonial weapons and ornate carriages. The collections are housed in several halls organized by theme, such as state regalia, armor, church treasures and court garments.
The building originated in the 15th century as an arsenal and storage place for tsarist weapons and armor. In the 19th century it was converted into a public museum preserving Russian state treasures and artisanal heritage.
The name derives from workshops that once produced weapons, icons and state regalia for the tsars. Today visitors see these traditions in displayed masterworks by Russian goldsmiths, jewelers and textile artisans who served the court across centuries.
Tickets must be reserved in advance, as visits run in scheduled time slots. Photography is not allowed in certain exhibition areas, and visitors pass through security checks when entering the Kremlin grounds.
Beyond the main collections, the museum houses the Diamond Fund, a separate treasury with the Grand Imperial Crown and Orlov Diamond. This collection also includes historical gemstones and jewelry once worn at coronations and state ceremonies.
