Air Defense History Museum

The Air Defense History Museum in Monino is an aviation museum located at a former airfield with more than forty aircraft, vehicles, and defense systems on display. The collection spans multiple exhibition halls showing air defense equipment from different decades.

The museum was established in 1958 with six aircraft and twenty anti-aircraft guns, then opened to the public in 1960. Since then it has grown steadily to become one of the largest aviation collections in the region.

The museum displays uniforms, personal effects, and documents from different eras of Soviet aviation, showing how pilots and technicians lived and worked. Visitors can see the human side of the military aviation story through these everyday objects.

The museum is located about 40 kilometers east of Moscow and is accessible by public transportation. Information panels at each aircraft explain the technical details and history, and guided tours are available.

The museum preserves experimental aircraft models and Cold War artifacts that document the technological advances of Soviet aviation. These rare exhibits show innovations that surprise many visitors.
