Central Air Force Museum, Military aviation museum in Monino, Russia
The Central Air Force Museum is a military aviation collection spanning over 20 hectares near Monino. The outdoor grounds and three large hangars house hundreds of aircraft and engines from early Soviet times to the present day.
The Ministry of Defense of the Soviet Union established this facility in 1958 at the site of a former air force maintenance base. Since then, the collection has grown continuously with aircraft from different phases of Soviet and Russian aviation development.
The collection displays flight suits, test equipment, and personal items from pilots across different decades. These objects tell the story of daily life and experiences of those who shaped Soviet and Russian aviation.
Visiting requires time since the grounds are large with much to explore. Plan to arrive early and prepare for outdoor conditions and walking distances, especially if you want to explore the hangars thoroughly.
The collection houses experimental aircraft models that never entered mass production and can only be seen here. These rare prototypes showcase Soviet engineering research that did not lead to operational aircraft.
