Monino, Work settlement in Shchyolkovsky District, Moscow Oblast, Russia
Monino is a work settlement located approximately 23 kilometers east of Moscow along the Gorky Highway in Moscow Oblast. The community developed around an aircraft facility and now hosts a major museum dedicated to Russian aviation history, containing thousands of aircraft, engines, and related artifacts.
The settlement originated in 1792 in the Muninskaya Wasteland and became an aviation center following the construction of a heavy aircraft airfield in 1926. The museum that developed there has preserved important records of Russian aircraft production and aviation development.
The Central Air Force Museum contains 173 aircraft, 127 engines, and numerous exhibits including weapons, instruments, and military uniforms from Russian aviation history.
The settlement is accessible by commuter trains departing from Moscow's Yaroslavsky Rail Terminal, with regular service throughout the day. Train travel offers a convenient and affordable way to reach the site and its attractions.
The community is home to the VVA-Podmoskovye rugby team, which has won eight Professional Rugby League championships throughout its history. This notable success in the sport reflects an unexpected sporting tradition in the region.
