Sosnovka Park, Urban park in Vyborgsky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Sosnovka Park is an urban park in Vyborgsky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The area covers 302 hectares with dense pine forests, walking paths, and recreational zones bordered by four major city avenues.
During World War II, the area served as a military airfield base for the 44th Fighter Aviation Regiment of Air Defense Forces. The base was part of the city's defense system during the siege.
In 1844, Russian writers Ivan Turgenev and Vissarion Belinsky regularly walked through the pine rows of the future park for intellectual discussions. The two often strolled between the trees, debating literature and philosophy.
The park includes several sports facilities, children playgrounds, cycling paths, and designated picnic zones accessible through multiple entrance points. The paths are well suited for walking and cycling, especially during morning and evening hours.
In February 1840, the area witnessed a duel between poet Mikhail Lermontov and Ernest de Barante, son of the French ambassador. The confrontation ended without serious injuries to either participant.
