Chess mountain Cascade, Baroque fountain in Lower Gardens of Petergof, Russia.

The Chess Mountain Cascade features black and white tiles forming a chessboard pattern with water flowing down multiple marble steps in Petergof gardens.

Peter the Great commissioned this cascade during the early 18th century as part of his vision to create a Russian palace complex rivaling Versailles.

The cascade incorporates three bronze dragons and ten marble statues of ancient gods, reflecting Russian interpretations of European architectural traditions.

Visitors can access the cascade from April through October when the fountains operate daily between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

The cascade operates without mechanical pumps, using a natural water supply system from springs located in the nearby hills of Ropsha.
