Musée de K. Marx et F. Engels

The Museum of K. Marx and F. Engels was located in a mansion near the Pushkin Museum on Volkhonka Street in the Khamovniki District. It housed extensive collections of writings, documents, and research materials about these two thinkers and their ideas.

The institute was founded in 1960 following Lenin's proposal and operated as part of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism under Communist Party oversight. It closed in 1992, after which its collections were transferred to the Russian State Archives.

The institution displayed how workers fought against unfair conditions and organized their movements during this period. Visitors could see how these ideas shaped society and what role they played in historical events.

The museum building stood on the well-known Volkhonka Street, making it easy to locate, especially for visitors also exploring the nearby Pushkin Museum. Before closing, visitors could reach the site and its rooms without major difficulty.

The site featured a precise reconstruction of Friedrich Engels' Manchester house, built as a replica during the early Soviet period. This recreated dwelling gave visitors an unexpected glimpse into the living conditions of one of the movement's key thinkers.
