Revenue house of Sariyevs

The revenue house of Sariyevs is an Art Nouveau building on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street featuring granite pilasters and ornamental keystones across its facade. The structure displays typical characteristics of this style with elaborate surface treatment and decorative details throughout.

The building was designed in 1902 by architect Andrei Fyodorovich Nidermeyer as a commercial space for the Sariyev family. It later housed the Maxim Gorky library, changing its role from commerce to culture.

The building displays a blend of Russian and European design approaches that you can see in how it looks. This mixture shows how the city adopted foreign styles while keeping its own character during the early 1900s.

The building is currently undergoing restoration with scaffolding surrounding it. Visitors should expect limited access to the immediate area due to the ongoing construction work.

A major fire in November 2020 damaged a significant portion of the structure. The restoration that followed was launched through a specialized agreement in 2021 to bring the historic building back to life.
