Building of revenue house of Karapet M. Chernov, Regional cultural heritage building in Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
The five-story structure features Corinthian and Ionic twin pilasters, ornate garlands, lion masks, and iron-cast railings on small fifth-floor balconies.
Built in 1890 by merchant Karapet M. Chernov, the initial three-story building expanded to five floors following increased housing demands in Rostov-on-Don.
The building transformed from a mixed-use commercial space with banks and dental practices to house the Rostov State University of Economics after 1964.
Located at the intersection of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street and Voroshilovsky Prospekt, the building maintains its original architectural elements through preservation efforts.
Two competing merchants constructed rival revenue houses on opposite sides of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, leading to an escalation in architectural grandeur.
