Taganrog old lighthouse

Taganrog old lighthouse was a cylindrical stone structure that rose above the waterfront of the city. It featured thick walls at its base and rows of rectangular windows along its exterior, making it a functional and visible structure.

The structure was built in 1878 under architect N.A. Arkas and replaced an earlier lighthouse from 1770. It served navigation until its demolition in 1970.

The lighthouse was a familiar landmark for fishermen and sailors who regularly passed through the harbor and used it for navigation. It shaped the waterfront and reminded visitors of the town's deep connection with maritime life.

The site is located on the waterfront and is easily accessible from the city center, where other attractions are also nearby. It is best to explore the area on foot and also visit the Peter the Great monument and the harbor area.

The tower had two observation platforms with stone ledges protected by metal lattices, and was crowned with a dome topped by a sphere and weather vane. These details made it not only functional for viewing but also a striking sight from the shore.
