Verkhnemakarovskoye Vodokhranilishche, reservoir in Russia
Verkhnemakarovskoye Vodokhranilishche is a reservoir in Sverdlovsk Oblast created in the early 1970s on the Chusovaya River. It consists of five large water basins extending northwest, surrounded by mixed forest and hills, with water levels that rise and fall throughout the year depending on snowmelt and seasonal conditions.
The reservoir was created in the early 1970s as a water supply reserve for Yekaterinburg. Over the decades it has become an important backup source for the city's water needs and protection against drought periods.
Access is straightforward via the Yekaterinburg-Polevskoy highway, turning right toward the Avtomobilist recreation base near Gorny Shchit. Paths lead to the water from there, and the journey is short and easy to navigate for visitors of all abilities.
Around 18 fish species live in the reservoir including pike, tench, and perch, with anglers using special equipment to locate suitable depths since detailed maps do not exist. The shoreline areas dry out and flood repeatedly throughout the year, creating distinctive patterns on the banks.
