Bolshoy Ochakovsky Pond, Stausee in Russland
Bolshoy Ochakovsky Pond is an artificial water reservoir in the Ochakovo-Matveyevskoye District, extending from southwest to northeast. It covers approximately 5.5 hectares with both natural and reinforced banks, where the right side remains largely untouched while the left is lined with concrete slabs.
The pond was formed in the mid-1950s when a dam was built across the Ochakovka River during road construction connecting Ochakovo and Nikulino. In 1979, a second dam was built during the expansion of Michurinski Prospect, dividing the water body into four separate sections.
The pond takes its name from the Ochakovka River, whose valley it occupies. It has become a familiar gathering place where locals walk, rest, and spend leisure time, forming a quiet corner of everyday neighborhood life.
The pond is located between Michurinski Prospect and Ozernaya Street and is easily accessible with pathways around the shore suitable for most visitors. The area is flat and features benches, well-maintained walking paths, and ramps for people with mobility needs.
The pond's original length was cut in half by the construction of Michurinski Prospect in 1979, a change clearly visible when comparing aerial photographs from 1964 with later images. This transformation reveals how urban infrastructure development reshaped the neighborhood's landscape.
