Памятник лётчику-космонавту Комарову

The six-meter-tall granite monument features a bust of cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov surrounded by open steppes near Karabutak village in Orenburg Region.

The monument replaced an original obelisk in 1982, marking the location where cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov died during the Soyuz 1 spacecraft landing in 1967.

The memorial site hosts annual ceremonies attended by regional officials, cosmonauts, and local residents to honor the first cosmonaut who died during a space mission.

Visitors can reach the monument by driving five hours from Orenburg or ninety minutes from Orsk, with the final stretch on graded roads.

The monument survived an attempted theft in 2006 when individuals tried to sell it for scrap metal, but local enterprises funded its restoration.
