Дом купца Кишкина

The Kishkin Merchant House is a regional heritage building on 2nd Moskovskaya Street with a symmetrical three-section facade. The four-axis central section forms the main visual focus of the structure along the street.

The building was constructed in the early 1800s and belonged to merchant D.I. Kishkin, who ran a successful canvas manufacturing factory in the region. Later it was repurposed as a detention center, giving it a different role in the community.

The house demonstrates how successful merchants lived and what architectural tastes they valued during the 1800s. The blend of Russian and Western styles visible in the building reflects the trade connections that shaped the city.

Visitors can explore the building through guided tours that show its transformation from a residence to an institutional space. Planning ahead is a good idea to ensure a tour is available when you visit.

Inside the building sits a former chapel of Alexander Nevsky that was built into the upper floor in 1890. The small chapel is recognizable by its characteristic onion-shaped dome that you can see from outside.
