God our Father on the Rainbow, Fountain sculpture in Nacka Strand, Sweden.
God our Father on the Rainbow is an 18-meter-high sculpture at Nacka Strand featuring a central figure mounted on a water fountain installation. The work combines metal sculpture with water mechanics as one integrated artistic piece.
Carl Milles designed this sculpture in the 1940s originally for the United Nations headquarters in New York. It was later brought to Sweden and installed at its current location.
The sculpture's title links divine presence with a natural phenomenon visible during water operation. It represents a spiritual connection between the figure and the elements surrounding it.
The site is accessible by public transportation from Stockholm, with regular bus services to Nacka Strand. Visit during daylight hours when water flow is operating so you can see the full effect of light and spray around the figure.
Water jets create a rainbow effect around the central figure, which is an essential part of both the artistic concept and the fountain mechanism itself. This effect becomes most visible when sunlight hits the spray at the right angle.
