Alkaff Bridge, Footbridge at Robertson Quay, Singapore.
Alkaff Bridge is a steel truss footbridge spanning 55 meters across the Singapore River with a design inspired by traditional wooden boats. It connects both sides of Robertson Quay and provides access to restaurants, entertainment venues, and residential buildings in the area.
The bridge takes its name from the Alkaff family, Arab merchants who became among Singapore's most successful businesspeople in the early 1900s. Their trading networks shaped the economic development of the quay and the surrounding region.
The bridge was painted by artist Pacita Abad in 2004 with 55 different colors, turning it into a meeting point for people walking along the river. The colorful coating defines how locals and visitors experience the waterfront today.
The footbridge is open daily and offers an easy walk across the river with clear views of both banks. The best time to cross is late afternoon or evening, when the LED lights are most visible and riverside dining is busiest.
The bridge features an LED lighting system that creates changing color patterns at night against the sky and water. These shifting light effects make each evening walk across feel different.
