Hotel Fort Canning, boutique hotel
Hotel Fort Canning is a boutique hotel set inside a colonial building from 1926, situated on a hill within Fort Canning Park in Singapore. It offers rooms with natural light, a restaurant with garden seating called The Salon, two mineral pools, a spa, and a fitness center.
The building was constructed in 1926 as the headquarters for the British Far East Command and was later occupied by Japanese forces during World War II. After years of mixed military and civilian use, it was converted into a hotel in 2011.
The hotel sits inside a former military building surrounded by a park, which gives the place a character unlike most city hotels. Guests can walk through the grounds and come across remnants of old city walls and colonial-era tombs without leaving the property.
Because the hotel sits on a hill, arriving by taxi is the easiest option if you have luggage, as the uphill path can be tiring. Once settled, the National Museum and nearby shopping areas are within easy walking distance.
The lobby floor has glass-covered archaeological pits where artifacts from the 14th and 19th centuries are visible beneath your feet. The pools use a water treatment technology originally developed for space missions, which means no chlorine and no sharp chemical smell.
