Comcentre, Communications skyscraper in Orchard, Singapore.
Comcentre is a skyscraper in the Orchard district of Singapore, made up of a lower five-story podium block and a taller main tower linked by a central plaza. The building sits on Exeter Road and serves today as an office complex.
The building was constructed in the 1980s as the headquarters of Singapore's national telecommunications company. As the sector changed over the decades, it gradually shifted into its current role as a general office building.
The name Comcentre comes from "Communications Centre," reflecting its original role as the base of the national telephone and telegraph network. Today the building is used mainly as an office complex, though its technical character is still visible in the rooftop equipment.
The main entrance is on Exeter Road, within easy walking distance of the Orchard area. The two-part layout of the building makes it straightforward to find your way once inside.
The building's main facade faces north, which is unusual in Singapore where most buildings are oriented to make use of sunlight. This orientation was chosen to optimize the positioning of the satellite dishes on the roof.
