Library@orchard, Public library in Orchard Gateway, Singapore
The library spans two floors in Orchard Gateway with two distinct areas called The Studio and The Loft, housing approximately 100,000 titles. The spaces blend book collections with study zones and communal areas designed for both browsing and focused work.
The library was established in 1999 at Ngee Ann City and relocated to Orchard Gateway in 2014 following a National Library Board renovation initiative. This move modernized the collection and improved accessibility for patrons in the heart of the shopping district.
The collection is organized around five thematic areas: People, Space, Visual, Product, and Lifestyle, with nearly half focused on design disciplines. Visitors experience a perspective where books serve as windows into how humans create, inhabit, and shape their surroundings.
The facility offers digital newspaper stations, multipurpose rooms, and wheelchair access for inclusive use. Its location near Somerset MRT station makes reaching it straightforward via public transportation.
The display system arranges books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and digital screens within tree-shaped structures throughout the space. This organic design creates a more natural feeling when exploring and discovering materials.
