Sadberk Hanım Museum, Private museum in Büyükdere, Sarıyer, Turkey

Sadberk Hanım Museum occupies two nineteenth-century villas along the Bosphorus waterfront and houses around 20,000 objects from multiple cultures and time periods. The collection spans ceramic wares from Anatolia, embroidered textiles, European porcelain, and traditional Turkish garments acquired over many centuries.

The museum opened in 1980 when the Koç family converted their 1950 summer residence into a public institution for displaying their private collection. A new wing was added in 1988 to accommodate earlier archaeological finds and expand exhibition space.

The collection reflects how Ottoman society and earlier civilizations lived through textiles, ceramics, and garments that reveal daily practices. Visitors sense the tastes and traditions that shaped how people furnished their homes and dressed across centuries.

The buildings sit directly on the Bosphorus waterfront, giving visitors views across the water while they move between galleries and experience the seaside setting. Allow extra time to walk through the gardens and waterfront areas, as these outdoor spaces enhance the overall experience.

A modern wing designed to house the oldest artifacts received international recognition for its architecture and exhibition approach. Visitors can see pottery and objects dating back thousands of years to some of humanity's earliest settlements in the region.

Instagrammable photo locations in Istanbul

Istanbul offers photographers an uncommon range of subjects, combining architecture from multiple centuries with urban landscapes and waterways. This route includes Byzantine and Ottoman monuments such as Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, along with the Galata Tower that has stood over the old city since the 14th century. The Bosphorus separates Europe and Asia and provides the setting for historic sites including Rumeli Fortress, Maiden's Tower, and waterfront palaces like Dolmabahce Palace and Kucuksu Palace. The route passes through districts with different character. Balat displays Ottoman wooden houses and narrow lanes, while Karakoy is known for its renovated industrial buildings. The Princes' Islands off the coast offer car-free streets and neoclassical mansions. Viewpoints like Camlica Hill and Pierre Loti Hill provide panoramic views of the city and the Sea of Marmara. Additional destinations include Suleymaniye Mosque, Emirgan Park with its tulip beds, and modern structures like Zorlu Center.
