Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum, Glass art museum in Beykoz, Turkey.
The Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum is housed in a renovated 19th-century barn within a former estate and displays about 1500 glass and crystal objects across twelve thematic sections. The 3000-square-meter exhibition space also includes a specialized library for glass art, workshops, a café, and a museum shop.
The site dates back to the 19th century when Ottoman rulers built a glass factory there. This factory produced items for both palace use and general commerce, showing that glass making was an important craft in the region at that time.
The collection shows how Turkish glass making developed from the Seljuk period through Ottoman times, with valuable pieces from palaces and everyday life. Visitors can see how glass served different purposes for religious use, family needs, and trade.
The visit works best when you take time for each thematic section and compare the different glass types and how they were made. The workshops and library allow visitors to explore the craft more deeply if you are interested in learning more.
One of the display pieces is a 700-year-old glass plate from Kubadabad Palace that shows early decoration techniques such as painted designs and gilding. This piece shows how advanced glass artists were already in the medieval period.
