Beykoz, Administrative district on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, Turkey

Beykoz is a district on the Anatolian side of Istanbul stretching along the northern Bosphorus shore toward the Black Sea coast. The area consists of many neighborhoods with different characters, ranging from waterside settlements to inland residential zones.

The area was known in ancient times as Amikos and served religious purposes for local communities. In the 19th century, it grew into an industrial zone through factory development during the Ottoman era.

The district is known for its universities that shape intellectual life and for traditional crafts practiced in its neighborhoods for generations. Visitors encounter a mix of academic culture and local customs that define the character of this part of Istanbul.

The area spans many neighborhoods extending from the waterfront into the hills, so it makes sense to allow time for exploring. The best approach is to focus on specific neighborhoods that interest you rather than trying to see everything at once.

Glass production is deeply tied to the area's history, particularly through a renowned glassworks that has operated since the late 19th century. This factory shaped not only the economy but also the daily life and identity of residents.
