Moda, Waterfront neighborhood in Kadıköy, Turkey
Moda is a residential neighborhood on the peninsula between central Kadıköy and Kurbağalıdere creek, facing the Marmara Sea. Streets here blend homes, cafes, and waterfront paths that create a relaxed living environment by the water.
During the 1870s, the neighborhood emerged as a residential district when wealthy non-Muslim families built numerous mansions throughout the area. This period of growth gave the place its lasting architectural character.
Several houses of worship from different faiths—Armenian, Greek Orthodox, and Anglican churches—reflect the diverse religious life of the neighborhood. Together with theaters and the Süreyya Opera House, these spaces form the cultural heart where residents and visitors gather.
The Kadıköy-Moda Nostalgia Tram connects the neighborhood to central Kadıköy, while the restored Moda Pier offers ferry service. Both options provide convenient ways to arrive and leave the area.
The former Whittall Mansion now houses the Barış Manço Museum, displaying personal objects and documents from the Turkish rock musician's life. The building itself tells two stories: one from the past and one connected to modern music heritage.
