Myndos Gate

Myndos Gate is an ancient fortification in Bodrum with two large stone towers connected by sturdy walls. The structure had a wide ditch in front to stop invaders and control access to the city.

The gate was built in the 4th century BC under King Mausolos as part of Halicarnassus's defenses. It came under siege in 334 BC when Alexander the Great sought to conquer the city.

The gate was part of the ancient city of Halicarnassus and shows how residents protected their settlement. Visitors can see today how the massive stone construction was designed to safeguard the population and important buildings.

The site is located near Bodrum and can be explored on foot, though climbing to the towers requires some effort. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring water and sun protection during hot months.

Two underground burial chambers were discovered near the gate, with one having two stories and revealing ancient funeral customs. These graves show how important the location was to the people of that time.
