Sultan Han

The fortified stone structure features a monumental entrance portal, large interior courtyard with arcades, and a central domed winter hall spanning 3,900 square meters.

Sultan Ala ad-Din Kayqubad I commissioned this caravanserai between 1232 and 1237 CE as part of a network of trading posts across Anatolia.

The stone-carved decorations include lion head drain spouts and serpentine dragon motifs, reflecting the artistic preferences of Seljuk architecture.

Located 47 kilometers northeast of Kayseri on the road to Sivas, the caravanserai maintains its original structure through multiple restoration projects since 1951.

The central courtyard contains an elevated stone mosque chamber supported by four pillars, demonstrating the integration of religious spaces in commercial structures.
