Kotsiubynske, Rural settlement in Bucha Raion, Ukraine.
Kotsiubynske is an urban-type settlement in Bucha Raion, surrounded entirely by Kyiv and located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the capital's center. The settlement contains residential areas with a mix of older homes and newer construction, reflecting its evolution from a small station into a larger community.
The settlement began in 1900 as a station point along the Kyiv-Kovel railway line, when forest rangers established an outpost in the area. From this modest beginning, it gradually developed into a residential community serving workers and their families over the 20th century.
The population composition from 2001 showed a strong Ukrainian majority at 70 percent, with Russian residents representing 26 percent of the local inhabitants.
The location sits southwest of Kyiv and is easily reached from the capital by public transport, as the railway connection has been important historically. Visitors should know this is a working residential community where local shops and services meet daily needs.
The place started from a single forest ranger house along the railway and grew over a century into a community of thousands. This transformation shows how transport-oriented outposts became major residential centers during the Soviet era.
