Олександро-Невський собор, Orthodox cathedral in Melitopol, Ukraine
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral features stone walls, wooden domes, and a bell tower constructed with Doric quarter-columns and arched window openings.
Built in 1861 with support from local citizen N. Krotky, the cathedral received two additional chapels dedicated to the Protection of the Mother of God and Saints Peter and Paul.
The cathedral serves as one of two main religious centers of the Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The cathedral maintains a Sunday school and houses the Preobrazheniye choir, which won an international church music festival in Poland in 2008.
During World War II, German authorities permitted the restoration of Orthodox services in the former Armenian church building, which became the new Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
