Edgware, Suburban district in North London, United Kingdom.
Edgware is a residential district in North London within Greater London county. The streets run across a wooded ridge with green spaces and shops along the old Watling Street.
The place is already mentioned as Aegces wer in a manuscript from 970. During the reign of Elizabeth I a market town with weekly trade developed here.
The name comes from an Old English term for a fishing trap and recalls the river's earlier use. Today people from different backgrounds live in the residential streets and share the center for shopping and meeting.
The Northern Line stops at the western terminus and connects the district to the center in about 30 minutes. The Broadwalk Centre offers shops and cafés for daily needs near the station.
A large estate called Cannons rose northwest of the town center around 1720 through the Duke of Chandos. The composer George Frideric Handel lived there for a time and worked on several of his pieces in the house.
