Goodwood Circuit, Motor racing circuit in West Sussex, England
Goodwood Circuit is a motorsport racing track in West Sussex built on a former military airfield, measuring 3.81 kilometers (2.37 miles) in length. The layout uses sections of the original runways and connects them with corner sequences that pass between wartime buildings still standing today.
The airfield base was established during the Second World War and transitioned to civilian use after the conflict ended. The site opened as a racing venue in September 1948, and the chicane near the pits was added four years later to prevent excessive speeds in that section.
The estate has been part of the Goodwood family holdings for centuries and retains the rural character of the surrounding countryside. Visitors today experience a motorsport venue without advertising hoardings or modern grandstands, which allows an unobstructed view of the original track layout.
Access is normally available during specific events or by prior arrangement, and the site remains closed outside these times. Visitors can often walk along the perimeter, while race day tickets provide entry to the inner areas.
The track remains open in all weather conditions and is lined by the same trees and hedgerows that stood there in the nineteen-forties. This vegetation creates patches of shade and wind tunnels that affect driving conditions and make each lap feel different.
