Oakley Court, Victorian Gothic country house in Bray, England
Oakley Court is a Victorian country house in Gothic style along the Thames riverbank in Bray, England. The exterior walls show elaborate stonework, tall windows and decorative carvings that extend across the building and its outbuildings.
Sir Richard Hall Say commissioned the estate in 1859 while serving duties as High Sheriff of Berkshire. The building changed owners several times during the 20th century until it was eventually converted into a hotel with modern facilities.
This estate appeared in numerous film productions and served as a backdrop for horror movies during the 1970s. The facade with its towers became part of British cinema history and draws visitors who recognize its role on screen.
The grounds cover a large property along the riverbank with walking paths beneath old trees. Access comes through a curved driveway that sits within walking distance from the center of Bray in a few minutes.
The rooms still preserve wooden paneling and painted ceilings from the 19th century. Many of the rooms offer direct views of the river through tall windows that define the entire building.
