Inchmahome Priory, Medieval priory on Inchmahome island, Lake of Menteith, Scotland

The stone ruins of Inchmahome Priory stand on the largest of three islands in the Lake of Menteith, featuring preserved church walls and chapter house.

Walter Comyn, Earl of Menteith, established Inchmahome Priory in 1238 for a community of Augustinian canons who maintained the religious site for three centuries.

Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the priory in 1547 at age four during political turmoil, marking this location in Scottish royal history.

Visitors reach the priory by motor boat from Port of Menteith pier between April and September, with the last departure from the island at 3:30 PM.

The priory grounds contain a rare medieval boxwood bower, traditionally associated with Mary Queen of Scots during her childhood refuge.
