Silvertown, Industrial district in East London, GB
Silvertown is an area stretching along the north bank of the Thames River with modern homes and preserved industrial buildings. The district mixes new residential developments along the Royal Docks with older structures that shaped its past.
The name comes from S.W. Silver & Company, which opened a rubber factory here in 1852 to make waterproof clothing. This factory shaped the economic growth of the area for many decades.
The area keeps its industrial roots visible through structures like the Millennium Mills and Silo D that show London's manufacturing past. Walking here, you notice how these buildings shape the character of the neighborhood and connect it to its working history.
The Elizabeth line at Custom House station connects the area to central London in about 15 minutes. The DLR also serves the district through nearby stations for quick trips to other parts of the city.
The area is London's only Enterprise Zone and offers extensive workspace for businesses to grow and develop. This special economic area attracts companies looking to expand and create jobs in the district.
